Edinburgh band Homework have returned after an 18-month absence with a new single, out on the first of March. Their new song, Why Oh Why, is available to listen (and, to download for free at their website) here.
The synth-laced introduction and electronic driven chorus is evocative of both Hockey and, to an extent, Passion Pit – and although it’s good, catchy and well produced, it seems to lack that danceable element – that elusive quality that drenches say, Delphic, but seems to have been drained here.
Don’t get me wrong – it’s a great song – there’s just a feeling I get that there’s more to squeeze out and pack in, like it’s been diluted. One hopes that this only means that the best has been saved for their forthcoming album. If that’s the case, and this is only a taste, then get excited for an excellent electronic indie-pop offering.
