Double Gatefold

Tiny Birds

Tiny Birds press pic

Tiny Birds are a London-based folk band (a little out of my purview, I know, but what the hell) who’ve just released their debut album Hymns for the Careless.

Their sound is the same indie/folk with a cute chaser that defines other folk/pop artists like Patrick Watson or Devendra Banhart; but it’s often mixed with more complex, traditional folk arrangements. Soft, nostalgic lyrics are accompanied, no – blown along by the twinning of ukulele and banjo like pollen on a warm April breeze. This is probably the best way of describing the fourth track – the happy-go-lucky Sunshine and Silence.

The three most striking tracks on the 8 song album are Ariadne, Decisions and Still; that’s not a comment on the quality of the rest of the album, but more a signifier of the excellent killer/filler ratio exhibited here.
