This Silent Forest, “a singer songwriter led six piece with one foot in modern Scottish folk and the other in joyous pop” are writing one song a day for a month, which is pretty fun. The songs are going to be uploaded here onto their YouTube channel; they’re planning to collaborate with other artists and record each song at a different location in Scotland. But the really exciting bit is this: everyone who contributes to the songs, either by commenting on the videos or tweeting, will be directly influencing the next song. Christ knows what they’ll do if a load of people suggest a black metal number.
I waited a couple of days to pop this up, but the first track is below.
The second video (it feels wrong to clog up this article with too many players) is here. So yeah, keep checking it out.
Re: This Silent Forest
So I covered This Silent Forest’s awesome Song A Day For 30 Days project a while back but not in a particularly satisfactory manner; I figured it was cool but I didn’t really revisit it in a timely manner.
So to rashly skim through each of the 30 tracks would be pointless and unprofessional; instead here are the ones that Graeme McDonald, the lead singer, thought were the best in an interview with Kowalskiy.
I love the acoustic guitar solo at the end of that one; for me its on par with that sublime drop in Helplessness Blues by Fleet Foxes. And here’s a WWI-inspired track, Lovers Come Home.
